This is the time of year when we are packing up winter clothes, (OK we don’t really have winter clothes in PHX, AZ!) rearranging closets and sweeping the dust bunnies out from under beds and furniture (we have ginormous dust bunnies in PHX, AZ!). This is a process we go through several times a year, because time is not static, seasons change, messes are made and dust bunnies happen. Now, I will be the first person to admit that I don’t like housework of any kind. So I tend to put it off as long as possible. But I don’t really like messes either. So when cleaning days do happen, it is an opportunity for me to turn on the tunes and turn the volume up. I love to listen to Classic Rock, Christian Rock, Show Tunes and various upbeat music that I can sing and dance to, so it is not uncommon to see me singing and dancing as I wield my broom and dustpan and make war against the monster dust bunnies!
But what about our attitudes, thoughts, lifestyles and daily habits? When do we evaluate the way we are living and the things we are doing each day? This should be an ongoing process of life, but it is so easy to get stuck in the routine of day-to-day living that we may keep doing the same things over and over again even when they are no longer working, and may, in fact be hurting us in some way. In the video below, Shawn Achor says that by thinking positive thoughts, and doing positive things we can actually train our brains to be more positive and release more endorphins on a regular basis. It is worth 12 minutes of your time to watch this.
So, now I have watched the video, taken a long walk with my dogs and my MP3’s, and written this blog post. I guess it’s time to turn up the music and attack some killer dust bunnies! Please comment below and let me know how you get your endorphins and your positive energy flowing, and what music do you listen to to help that along.
Enjoy the weather wherever you are and remember to make every day musical!
